Laura Mvula ( born April 23, 1987) is a British recording artist, musician and songwriter. Her debut album, Sing to the Sun, was released on 4 March 2013, and on 11 August 2014 an orchestral re-recording was released. Her second album, The Dreaming Chamber, is out in 2016. Both albums received critical acclaim and earned nominations for the Mercury Prize.Mvula grew up with two younger siblings in the Birmingham suburbs of Selly Park and Kings Heath, and was inspired by Eternal girl band. She attended Swanshurst Girls School in her teen years. Her mother comes from St. Kitts and her father comes from Jamaica.
