He had a long theater career but achieved his greatest fame for his television comedy roles, most notably as Rupert Rigsby in the 1974 to 1980 ITV series Rising Damp and Reginald Perrin in the 1976 to 1979 BBC's The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin.Rossiter was born in Wavertree, Liverpool, on 21 October 1926, the second son of John and Elizabeth (born Howell) Rossiter.[2][3 ] The family lived over his father's barber shop.
