Lily Jane Collins is a native of Guildford, Surrey, England. Her father is the English singer Phil Collins, while her mother, Jill Tavelman, who is from Los Angeles, California, spent three terms as president of the Beverly Hills Women's Club. Around the age of five Lily moved to LA with her mum, after her parents had broken up. She is of Jewish Russian (from her maternal grandfather), English, and German. Her first television appearance was Growing Pains, the BBC series, in 1992, at the age of two. Collins worked as a player at the Youth Academy for Dramatic Arts but her primary focus was journalism. She graduated from Harvard-Westlake School and attended the USC, where she studied writing in broadcasting.
