Linda Blair had to get used to the spotlight from the age of five, first as a child model and then as an actor, when she was selected for the part of Regan, the possessed boy, in The Exorcist (1973), out of 600 applicants. Linda soon achieved international fame, won the Golden Globe, and seemed likely to win the Academy Award for that role, but when it leaked how certain aspects of the role were not played by her (the demonic voice was voiced by Mercedes McCambridge and eight seconds of a stunt dummy was used) the vision broke, and with that frustration the first blow undoubtedly came to what seemed like the beginning of an A-list career.
