Cotillard is the daughter of actor, playwright and director Jean-Claude Cotillard and actress and drama trainer Niseema Theillaud. The family of her dad's is Breton.Born in Orléans, France, she made her acting debut as a child getting a part in one of the plays of her father. She has studied drama at the Orléans Conservatoire d'Art Dramatique. Cotillard had sporadic and limited roles in TV series such as Highlander (1992) and Extrême limite (1994) after small appearances and performances in theater, but her career as a film actress started in the mid-1990s.
