The daughter of Michelle Yeoh and Yeoh Kian Teik, lawyer and politician, was born as Yang Zi Qiong in the mining city of Ipoh, in western Malaysia. She's a Han Chinese (Hokkien) resident, and before the Chinese she's spoken English and Malay. A ballet dancer she has been moving since she was four years old to London, UK, to study as a teenager at the Royal Academy.
