Her father from Serbia, Bogdan Jovovich, had been a doctor in Kiev. There he met her mother, the Russian actress Galina Jovovich (born Loginova). Milla emigrated from the Soviet Union with her parents at the age of 5 in 1981 and moved first to London, UK, then to Sacramento, California.
