She learned the works of William Shakespeare and the other great playwrights at Carnegie Tech (Carnegie Mellon University) and took off to New York City upon graduation.She received acclaim in the 1951 City Center portion of the tavern hostess in Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew."
