According to a November 2002 piece by Glasgow's Sunday Mail, she narrowly missed out on the role of Miranda Frost in Die Another Day (2002), which went to Rosamund Pike. She revealed in 2002 that she was physically and mentally abused at 18 years old by her first boyfriend. She said that playing Beryl Stapleton in The Hound of the Baskervilles (2002) brought back painful memories of this relationship and she could relate to the character very deeply.
