She went on to be crowned Miss USA after winning the race for the Miss Rhode Island USA, and then Miss Universe in 2012. Since winning the title for the 2012 Miss Rhode Island USA on the first contest she entered, on June 3, 2012, she went on to win the Miss USA contest.The City of Cranston, Rhode Island held a homecoming party for Culpo and pageant victory on July 6, 2012. Mayor Allan Fung presented Culpo with the key to the city at an informal ceremony held in Cranston City Hall.
