Patrick Joseph McGoohan was an Irish-American actor, screenwriter, and producer (19 March 1928 –13 January 2009). In the 1950s, he began his career in the UK, relocating to the United States in the 1970s. His career-defining roles were in the British TV show Danger Man (US: Secret Agent) and his co-created immersive psychological thriller The Prisoner. Rolling through his career, he won two BAFTA and two Primetime Emmy Awards.In 1955, McGoohan appeared in the part of a Church of England vicar accused of being gay in a West End performance of a play called Severe Charge. Orson Welles was so fascinated by McGoohan's stage presence ("intimidated," Welles would later say) that he cast him as Starbuck in his Moby Dick — Rehearsed York theater production.
