Possibly one of Britain's most underestimated stars, Paul Freeman has practically earned hundreds of film credits over many decades, most famously as the lead antagonist in the Steven Spielberg classic Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), and has performed widely in theater, but he has continued to resist becoming a celebrity or even a household name in his native UK. He initially worked in advertising, and then studied as a teacher, while as a pastime he took part in amateur drama. He acquired considerable experience in repertory acting in England and Scotland as a professional actress, and landed minor parts at the Royal Court Theatre. He is now a founder member of Business Joint Stock Theater.
