Paul Muni (née Frederich Meshilem Meier Weisenfreund; 14 October 1895–25 August 1967) was an American stage and film actor born in Austro-Hungary who grew up in Chicago. Muni had been a five-time nominee for the Academy Award, with one win. He started his acting career at the Yiddish Theatre. During the 1930s he was recognized as one of the Warner Bros ' most successful stars.
