Anderson was originally born in 1970. He was one of the first generation of moviemakers in the "video shop." His father was the first man to own a V.C.R. in his block and Anderson had an unlimited range of titles available to him from a very early age. Although filmmakers like Spielberg cut their teeth making 8 mm videos, Anderson cut his teeth from V.C.R. to V.C.R., filming videos on tape and editing them. His father met a variety of odd-ball actors including Robert Ridgely, an actor who frequently starred in movies by Mel Brooks and would later play "The General" in Boogie Nights by Anderson (1997).
