Peter John Kay (born 2 July 1973) is an English actor and comedian. Kay read, produced, and appeared in a variety of television and film productions, and published 3 books.Born and raised in Bolton, Lancashire, Kay studied performance journalism at Salford University. He started performing as a stand-up comic part-time, earning the North West Comic of the Year award. He won Channel 4's Why You Think You're Funny contest in 1997, and was nominated for his performance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for a Perrier Award the following year.In 2000, he co-wrote and appeared in The Peter Kay Thing for Channel 4, with his public profile raised. This culminated in a spin-off comedy, Phoenix Nights, airing from 2001–02 for two series and in turn producing another spin-off, Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere, in 2004.
