Raised in Grays, Essex, England, on July 30th, 1953. He's a well-known actor and director for Vera Drake (2004), Alien3 (1992) and Bleak House (2005). Since 2002, he has dated Eve Matheson. He has Amy's daughter (born 2002) and Hugo's son (born 1996). They're one child. He has starred in two plays, Quadrophenia (1979) and Brighton Rock (2010), in Brighton in 1964. He is consulting with Mike Leigh on a regular basis. He's a big fan of Jodie Whittaker, he tweeted to share his excitement at her role as the first woman doctor as a great fan of Doctor Who (2005) (he also starred in the series).
