Robert Golden Armstrong ("Bob" to his friends) was born on 7 April 1917 in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended North Carolina University in Chapel Hill. While there, he and the Carolina Playmakers regularly played on stage. Following graduation returned to New York, where he had first begun his acting career.R.G., in 1958 He plummeted into Hollywood — he starred in two movies, a TV show, and made several appearances on TV shows that year, usually in Westerners such as The Rifleman (1958), Have Gun-Will Fly (1957) and Zane Grey Theater (1956), among others.
