The British adventurer and holder of many endurance titles is Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes, 3rd Baronet, OBE (born 7 March 1944), simply known as Ranulph Fiennes, and occasionally as Ran Fiennes. He is also a novelist, author, and co-creator of the Great British Rum by Sir Ranulph Fiennes. Fiennes spent eight years in the British Army including a time of counter-insurgency service while attached to the Sultanate of Oman's Army. He also conducted several expeditions and became the first person to explore by land means both the North and South Poles, and the first one to reach Antarctica on foot. He ascended to the top of Mount Everest in May 2009 at the age of 65.
