The younger daughter of media entrepreneur, author, and singer Quincy Jones and actress Peggy Lipton, Rashida Jones was born in Los Angeles, California. She has an older son, Kidada Jones, and the other relationships her father has with five half-siblings. Her father is an African-American, and her mother is an Ashkenazi Jew (a descendant of Russian and Latvian emigrants).Rashida had been brought up in reform Judaism. She was born in Bel Air, in Los Angeles, California. "It was the 1970s and still not that natural for them to be together," Jones said of her mixed race parentage. Jones made her professional acting debut in The Last Don, a 1997 mini-series based on Mario Puzo's book. Rashida, too, graduated from Harvard University in 1997.
