Rebecca Adlington OBE (born 17 February 1989) is a retired British elite swimmer who specialized in international freestyle competitions. She captured two gold medals in the 400-meter freestyle and 800-meter freestyle at 2008 Summer Olympics, shattering Janet Evans' 19-year-old world record in the 800-meter final. Adlington became Britain's first Olympic swimming champion since 1988 and the first British swimmer to win two Olympic gold medals after 1908. After earning her first World Championship gold over 800 meters in 2011, she won bronze medals at both the 400-meter and 800-meter freestyle competitions at the 2012 London Summer Olympics.
