Rian Johnson was born in England, and his family moved to San Clemente, California, where he was brought up at a young age. He went on to attend the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, after graduating from high school. His first feature film, Brick (2005), was released in 2005, and became the metaphoric building block that started his career. He is a music producer, novelist and guitarist. His second film, The Brothers Bloom (2008), proved his ability to tell an entertaining story with A-list stars, and he was cemented as a classic science fiction hero by the groundbreaking Looper (2012) Three episodes of the highly praised Breaking Bad (2008), are among his highest-rated work.
