Richard Philip Lewis (born 29 June 1947) is an American comedian stand-up and actor. Until transitioning to acting he rose to attention in the 1980s as a comedian specialized in self-deprecating humor. He is known for co-starring in the comedy series Everything but Love (1989–92) and in Curb Your Excitement (2000–present) for his recurring and semi-autobiographical role.In the 1970s Lewis began doing stand-up comedy. By day he worked as a copywriter for an ad firm, and at night he was honing his stand-up routine. The ad agency was called Contemporary Graphics (now defunct), and was based in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, above Lovey's pizzeria.
