Robert Taylor (born Spangler Arlington Brugh; August 5, 1911–June 8, 1969) was one of the most famous leading men of his day, an American film and television star. Once Taylor signed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer he began his film career in 1934. The following year he won his first lead role in Magnificent Obsession. During the late 1930s and 1940s his popularity increased with appearances at A Yank in Oxford (1938), Waterloo Bridge (1940), and Bataan (1943). Throughout World War II, he worked as a flight instructor in the United States Naval Air Corps, where he participated in instructional films. He appeared in the series The Detectives Starring Robert T from 1959 to 1962
