Rocky Johnson (born Wayde Douglas Bowles; 24 August 1944 – 15 January 2020) was a professional Canadian wrestler. He became the first black Georgia Heavyweight Champion and other stories in the National Wrestling Alliance. Along with his brother Tony Atlas he won the World Tag Team Championship in 1983 to become the first black champions in WWE history.Johnson began his career as a professional wrestler in 1964, in Southern Ontario; he officially changed his name to his "Rocky Johnson" nickname shortly after his debut. He picked the name Rocky Johnson as a nod to two of his favorite boxing champions: Rocky Marciano and Jack Johnson, who became the first heavyweight black boxing champion.
