Brooklyn-bred Romany Malco, the first American-born member of his West Indian family, started his career at the age of seven when he picked up a microphone and started rapping. He relocated to Texas as a youth and founded the rap group R.M.G., and the band signed a contract to Virgin Records after relocation to Los Angeles.The name of the group was changed to College Boyz, and their first major hit on the rap charts, "Victim of the Ghetto," went to #1. Malco was working on The Pest (1997) as a music promoter starring John Leguizamo when the director, intrigued by the charismatic nature of Malco, urged him to try the acting.
