Ruby Keeler started out on Broadway as a dancer. She moved to Hollywood following her marriage to Al Jolson and became a star opposite Dick Powell in Warners musicals. Following her divorce from Jolson she disappeared for almost 30 years, before she performed on Broadway in 1971 under Busby Berkeley's direction in "No No Nanette."Keeler, who was a Catholic of mainly Irish descent and Al Jolson, a Jewish husband, was unable to conceive of a child, so they adopted a half-Irish and half-Jewish baby boy. She had four children with her second partner, after divorcing Jolson. Her adopted son, Al Jolson Jr., became a happy member of her new home. His name was later changed to Peter.
