How tall was Stanley Kubrick?
Stanley Kubrick was born to Sadie Gertrude (Perveler), and Jacob Leonard Kubrick, a surgeon, in Manhattan, New York City. His ancestors were refugees of Jewish descent (from Hungary, Romania and Russia). Stanley was considered clever, given low school results. In 1940 Kubrick's father sent him to Pasadena, California, in hopes that a change of scenery would yield improved academic results. Returning to the Bronx in 1941 for his final high school year, his mood or his grades appeared to change nothing. Jack introduced Stanley to chess, trying to find something to intrigue his friend, with the desired outcome. Kubrick enthusiastically took to the game, and soon became an accomplished player. In later years, Chess would become an important game for Kubrick, also as an tool for dealing with recalcitrant actors, but also as an artistic motif in his films.
