Thomas John Mitchell was an American actor (July 11, 1892-December 17, 1962). His most prominent long career roles include Gerald O'Hara in Gone with the Wind, Doc Boone in Stagecoach, Uncle Billy in It's a Wonderful Life and Major Jonas Henderson in High Noon. Mitchell was the first male actor to win an Oscar, a Tony Award, and an Emmy.He was nominated twice for an Oscar, first for The Hurricane (1938), he received Stagecoach's Best Supporting Actor Award (1939); and he was nominated for an Emmy Award three times. He was nominated for his appearance in the medical drama The Doctor twice, in 1952 and 1953, receiving the 1953 Lead Actor Drama award.
