Tracy Chapman (born 30 March 1964) is an American singer-songwriter, known for her hits "Fast Ride" and "Give Me One Excuse" as well as other singles "Talkin' 'bout a Revolution," "Baby Can I Keep You," "Crossroads," "New Beginning," and "Sharing Stories." She is a multiplatinum musician, and a four-time Grammy Award recipient. Bob Krasnow had signed Chapman to Elektra Records in 1987. She released her critically acclaimed debut album Tracy Chapman the following year, which has been a worldwide multiplatinum success. The album earned six Grammy Award nominations for Chapman including Album of the Year, three of which she won, including Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her "Fast Ride" single, and Best New Artist.
