Vanessa Marcil was born to Patricia Irene Ortiz (married: Patricia Irene Marcil), a herbalist & Pete Ortiz, a builder, in Indio, California, on October 15, 1968. She and her father, big brother: Pete Samuel "Sam" Ortiz Jr. (November 16, 1958-November 7, 2019) and big sisters: Tina (born October 20, 1959) & Sherry (born September 7, 1962), grew up in Indio.She started playing in plays when Vanessa was 8 and even sang her own music at a talent show in sixth grade, where she won. Soon afterwards she began to pursue an acting career and appeared in several theater productions before securing Brenda Barrett's job at the General Hospital (1963) ABC daytime soap opera in 1992.
