Vernee Christell Watson-Johnson (born Watson) is an American actress, poet, voice artist, and acting coach. Watson-Johnson is well known as Vernajean Williams on Welcome Back, Kotter (1975–79) and Viola "Vy" Smith on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990–96), portraying Will Smith's character 's mother. She previously played Dee Dee on Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels, an anime series by Hanna-Barbera. She joined the cast of NCIS (Season 14, Episode 2: "Being Bad").
