American actor who had early success as a cheerful teenager but declined during World War II, where he was a highly decorated hero. A Los Angeles native, Morris played junior college football at Los Angeles, and served as a forest ranger. Returning to school, he studied acting at Junior College Los Angeles and at the prestigious Pasadena Playhouse.A young scout from Warner Bros. noticed him in the Playhouse, and in 1936 he signed with the studio. Blonde and open-faced, he was a perfect guy for boy-next-door roles and had performed in Kid Galahad's (1937) title role within a year. Morris became interested in flying while recording Flight Angels (1940), and became a pilot.
