Her sisters were actress Eva and actress Magda Gabor.Gabor started her stage career in Vienna, and in 1936 she was crowned Miss Hungary. In 1941 she emigrated from Hungary to the USA. She was known to have a charisma that "exuded beauty and elegance" as a sought-after actress of "European flair and style." Her first film appearance in Lovely to Look At was a supporting role. She later appeared in We're Not Married! And she played one of her few leading roles in a film directed by John Huston, Moulin Rouge (1952). Earlier, Huston would characterize her as being a "creditable" actress.
