Charles Douville Coburn was an American actor (June 19, 1877-August 30, 1961). He has been nominated three times for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award – in The Devil and Miss Jones (1941), The More the Merrier (1943), and The Green Years (1946) – for his role in The More the Merrier. He was honored for his contribution to the film industry with a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. Coburn served as vice president of the Motion Picture Coalition for the Defense of American Ideals in the 1940s, a party dedicated to communist recruitment and proselytisation during the Cold War in Hollywood.
