Charles Grodin was born as Charles Grodinsky on 21 Apr 1935 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Best for Midnight Run (1988), King Kong (1976), and The Heartbreak Kid (1972), he is an actor and novelist. He married Elissa Durwood in July 1983. They have one kid. He had dated Julia Ferguson earlier. In Catch-22 (1970), producer Mike Nichols had already been cast as Captain Aarfy Aardvark, and persuaded him to take over the part of Colonel Cathcart when the original actor did not work out. As the part was written for an older man, it was played with old age make-up for several days before it was agreed to cast Martin Balsam instead, and Grodin returned to his original role.
